HISTORY

This is a very old farmhouse, and although the earliest known written documentary references to it date from the 16th century, its origins probably go back to the period of the Romanesque because even today remains from that era can still be found within its walls. There is a lintel over what was once the door to the cellar on which is engraved a chrismon. There is also a cross, which is possibly a Templar cross, engraved in the lintel over what was once a window and is now a built-in wardrobe in "El Graner". Thus there is evidence of the wide variety of people of different origins and cultures who have passed through here in the course of time and form a part of the time-honoured mystique of the Montseny.

With a long history of forestry and livestock farming, in the middle of the 20th century the house began to be used as a hostelry for travellers passing through. In time it became one of the first lodging houses for rural tourism to appear in Catalonia.

Apart from the house's marvellous location in the middle of the Montseny Nature Park, which makes it an ideal starting point from which to discover the natural beauty of the area, we can also point to its courteous service, hospitality and lively conversations, always carried on from the perspective of freedom of thought.

An ideal spot to spend some days of peace and quiet in the mountains in any of the three separate units. Of special note is the wide variety of oil paintings, mostly landscapes, which decorate the rooms.

In addition, in September, 2005, a new, multi-use hall will be opened for use for different events and workshops. In it there will be a permanent exhibition of work by Joan Masnou, the owner of the house, who is also a painter.
